When do the Ogoh-ogoh parades take place during Nyepi?
Ogoh-ogoh is a Balinese tradition held on the eve of Nyepi, featuring processions of large effigies representing evil spirits. The parade, accompanied by music and loud noises, symbolically drives negative forces away before the Day of Silence. On Nyepi Day itself, the island remains quiet so that spirits believe Bali is uninhabited.
In 2026, the Ogoh-ogoh parade will take place on 18 March from approximately 6 PM. In Nusa Dua, guests may observe processions along public roads, typically around the ITDC area. Please reconfirm with our Concierge Team on the day for the latest schedule and recommended viewing locations.
What closes on Nyepi, and what remains available?
Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence, is observed across the entire island. Most public activities stop, and residents and visitors are expected to remain indoors or within their accommodation.
